Using Ubuntu 21.04 Xfce4 on Samsung S20 with DEX support.

Few things which are important :
Termux app from Play Store is outdated and needed to install from GitHub.
Termux-x11 ( termux side ) from termux repository is also outdated and needed to download and install from Github ( termux-x11.deb ).

1. Termux app for android. Download and install.
   termux-app_v0.118.0+github-debug_arm64-v8a from https://github.com/termux/termux-app/releases
   .
   Also is neded to set property allow-external-apps to true in ~/.termux/termux.properties in termux app.
   In termux type command :
   .
   echo 'allow-external-apps = true' >> ~/.termux/termux.properties

INSTALL UBUNTU UDROID VIA TERMUX APP

I assume that you already have installed Ubuntu Udroid in termux, but for those who visit
this site for the first time I will include how to install Udroid !
or visit main page where is guide for installing Ubuntu on phone via termux app.

in termux type commands :

• download installer
  curl -L -o install.sh https://bit.ly/udroid-installer
• run the installer
  bash install.sh
• Install ubuntu with this command
  udroid -i xfce4
udroid -l xfce4

2. Install pkg x11-repo in termux
   pkg install x11-repo -y

3. Install pkg xwayland in termux
   pkg install xwayland

..

4. Termux-x11 app download and install in android.
   termux-x11 - app-debug.apk from https://github.com/termux/termux-x11/releases

5. Termux-x11 pkg for termux side, download and from termux navigate to download dir and install package.
   .
   Download termux-x11.deb from https://github.com/termux/termux-x11/releases
   .
   In termux navigate to download dir and install pkg.
   dpkg -i termux-x11.deb

6. I am not sure if this is needed but I did it anyway.
   Cloned x11-packages dir from https://github.com/termux/x11-packages
   .
   In termux type command :
   .
   git clone https://github.com/termux/x11-packages.git

7. In termux update and upgrade
   .
   apt update
apt upgrade

..

8. In termux set XDG_RUNTIME_PATH variable and start termux-x11, also start pulse audio with option -D
   because pulse audio wont work as root.
   .
   export XDG_RUNTIME_PATH=$TMPDIR
termux-x11 > /dev/null &
pulseaudio --start --load="module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=127.0.0.1 auth-anonymous=1" --exit-idle-time=-1 -D

9. Start Udroid with --shared-tmp option.
   .
   proot-distro login udroid --shared-tmp

10. Now when Udroid is running start session which will output graphics to termux-x11 window.
    .
    DISPLAY=:0 xfce4-session

11. Exit from termux-x11 session.

On phone for exit from termux-x11 pull down notification pane and expand termux-x11
notification where you will see exit option.

On Samsung DEX notification pane for exit.

Now, when we have faster Udroid GUI for those who needs software for multiple cut - merge without re-encoding

LossLessCut could be software for you.

Assuming you installed https://github.com/RandomCoderOrg/ubuntu-on-android/discussions/92 ( works for other versions too )
Assuming already logged into VNCserver and using a terminal in vnc session.

Ubuntu terminal or termux terminal with started Udroid :

sudo apt update 
sudo apt install libasound2 -y # this fixes libasound.so error in beta 
sudo apt install wget ffmpeg -y 
wget https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut/releases/download/v3.44.0/LosslessCut-linux-arm64.tar.bz2 
tar -xvf LosslessCut-linux-arm64.tar.bz2 
cp /bin/ffmpeg ~/LosslessCut-linux-arm64/resources 
cp /bin/ffprobe ~/LosslessCut-linux-arm64/resources 
cd ~/LosslessCut-linux-arm64/ 
./losslesscut --no-sandbox

Losslesscut for arm64 comes with missing ffmpeg binaries so copying them from /bin fixes the EONET problem ( like the above command )

it has to be done before starting udroid or in a new termux session

and managed to start x11

Fonts are to big and it crashed once, but it works now.
Will continue to test tommorow.

However, fonts in firefox seems to be normal size.

YOUTUBE is much faster and watchable even in a full screen mode !

Is there a way to remove nav buttons in termux-x11 window ?

on [a7f4111] commit full screen is fully removed in the official termux-x11 app so there is no way to remove nav buttons

if you do want to remove nav buttons you can use my old termux-x11 snapshot ( it still have the full screen mode option )

It is not that important.
Clipboard isssue is more important.

Termux-x11 is very interesting project.

Ubuntu via VNC .
Ther are no upper or down nav buttons.

Full desktop experience !

Upper buttons from DEX in VNC (AUTOHIDE)

Down nav pane also from DEX in VNC (AUTOHIDE)

Both are hidden (AUTOHIDE) until you move mouse full up or to full down.

So I can say that VNC is perfect for output screen.
It behaves as it should for the large screen output..
And pretty much is stable, I did not have any crash.

And Clipboard is shared beetwen Android and Linux.

Just perfect !

But is slow !

At the other hand much faster and more interesting termux-x11

do not share clipboard between android and Linux,

which makes things more complicated, even hard.

Both upp and down panes are visible always and can no be removed !

I dont care much for upper and down pane, but clipboard in termux-x11 is so much pain
because I can not combine DEX and termux-x11 !

And termux-x11 crashes from time to time while VNC dont.
Upper nav buttons won't AUTOHIDE, no matter what I tried.

I dont know !

My vote is for now VNC, at least it is productive because it can work
with DEX ( Ubuntu and DEX share clipboard ),
while termux-x11 is partially usable ( Ubuntu and DEX does not share clipboard ),
and I can not combine DEX apps with Ubuntu efficiently.

But , yes termux-x11 is faster and more enjoyable !

If termux-x11 solve clipboard and fullscren mode,
and do not crash from time to time it will be perfect !

It seems that it needs to evolve at the moment. It will take some time !

Anyway the whole thing is awesome and is worth !

So, what is needed is to add share Clipboard between Android and Ubuntu in termux-x11,

and for that you can visit Termux-x11 site and place issue there.

There is API plugin termux-clipboard-set but I did not tried it for sharing Clipboard
between Android ( DEX ) and Ubuntu ( Udroid ).

I have lots of stuff in Udroid V2 .
Is it possible to upgrade to V3 or I have to uninstall termux and make clean install ?

The clipboard issue was a last milestone.
Everything else will evolve with time gradually.

With Clipboard implemented termux-x11 will become very usable,
and Ubuntu can be used on daily basis for everything,
for example even work...
