A very general issue:

Do groups/venues/courses/events have an own color(-scheme)?
Is it categories which give colors (see categories give colors #507)?
Do we stick with the colors for the role states?

I think especially the layout of groups should be rethought, also pushed by user feedback critizing the distinguishability of groups/group pages.
