Newsletter variables not working

Summary

so I have had this for a while now where supported variables in the newsletter are not working for instance I'm trying to use the alias tag in the following way

I tried to use the code block for an example in this report but it was still formatting it please see the attached text file for the relevant newsletter code

However, it seems it does not support it however other tags do work such as {ApplicationUrl} any suggestions or troubleshooting? nothing in the logs that i can tell that would be relevant
