Heimdall is a popular dashboard app, which supports "basic apps" (OliveTin is already listed) and "enhanced apps", which seems to allow additional functionality via a php extension.

The heimdall "app store" even has a very nice "download template" to begin working on an enhanced app - so I'd be happy to look into functionality for extending OliveTin in this way.
