Chain of Custody Tracking in ODM2 #156
Comments
@PleiadesAustralia - I don't think any of us have worked specifically on chain of custody tracking using ODM2. Keep in mind the ActionTypeCV could be modified to accommodate new use cases if you need new terms. If you want to track at that level, I wonder if you could create actions that represent the things you track in your chain of custody - e.g., transmission of samples from the field, handing over samples to a lab, etc. |
Action is ok but where do I put the Chain of Custody number (and the laboratory batch number). It is not a specimen and sampling feature (as a sample is) as far as I can tell.

I'm guessing ODM2 doesn't have everything you are wanting to fully parse out your chain of custody information into separate fields. @aufdenkampe started some batch related work in the LabAnalysis extension, but I don't think it's exactly the same as what you are suggesting. Every Action can have a description and link - you could link your actual chain of custody forms/reports to the action if you wanted to go that direction. |
@PleiadesAustralia, I've done Chain of Custody forms & compliance for my lab, and I remember making an effort to design ODM2 to enable this. Unfortunately I've been very busy since you posted this. It's on my To Do list to give a thoughtful response, hopefully at the end of next week. |
Could someone advise me based on their experience how to include Chain of Custody forms in ODM2. There doesn't seem to be an ActionTypeCV for a sample batch - how do you include this important information for preserving the integrity of collected data? Thanks in advance. Sam
