I'm trying to find a workflow that works for me and have been experimenting with tags, timewindows, and custom reports/filters but can't find a workflow that fits my working style.
I'm interested in tag suggestions and have included mine below, however, I'm more interested in how one chooses what to do in any given moment:
Do you open the interactive work report and manually type in a filter?
Do you view all available next actions in the interactive work report with no filtering?
Do you use custom reports for different scenarios? If so, what scenarios do you use?
Here are the tags I have so far:
power: anything that requires focus and/or physical energy
physical: anything that requires some physical effort (i.e. not something at my computer). This is useful when taking breaks from computer work and I want to get my heart rate up a bit.
toast: anything that can be done when my brainpower is low, usually in the evening or after an intense work block
exploration: anything that requires open-ended research. Usually, I'll save some articles to Omnivore (an open-source read-it-later service)
errand: things to do while out and about
Person-specific: Names of people I commonly interact with
office: anything that must be done in my home office (detached from my house but still on my property). I have a desktop computer there so anything that needs to happen specifically on my desktop will get this tag too.
home: anything I need to be physically at my house to do.
These tags seem to cover most use cases, however, I'm trying to figure out how to define scenarios that can effectively filter next actions and show me a short list of things that are relevant.
Here is an example of one I'm thinking for "focus": (((not:tag:listen and not:tag:toast) and (not:tag:home and not:tag:physical)) and not:property:timewindow:time:lt:25m)
