The measurement variables in this dataset use a format consistent with Google's R Style Guide. The first two variables are keys that identify the activity name descriptions, and the ID of the subject associated with the observation.
The measurement variables are named according to the following naming convention in which one element is selected from each bullet point below to arrive at a logical variable name:
- time domain time or frequency domain frequency signals
- Body to indicate body movement, or Gravity for
- Source of sensor signal Acc for Accelerometer, Gyro for gyroscope
- If this measurement measures jerk then Jerk is inserted, or if it is a magnitude measurement then Magnitude is inserted
- Which descriptive statistic is averaged Mean or Std for standard deviation
- The axis for which the measurement was taken X, Y or Z, if appropriate
