Don't abruptly close/open serial ports

Certain Bluetooth drivers can't handle when a serial port is closed and then immediately re-opened; it thinks the resource is still in use. In 1.1.0-pre, the solution was to simply comment out where it closes & reopens the port. Find a better long-term solution for this.
