While some see it as a lack of some way, I am very happy with the way you leave the choice of installing Google Apps to the user and want to encourage you, to leave it this way. I don't get how it would be an improvement to force anybody to use them. Maybe instead of the widget you could make a little assistant app, that installs Google Apps and/or F-Droid and/or alternatives much like the "browser download app" they had on Windows some time ago (or still have?) with a short description of each option.

One question though: Is Google frameworks installed even if the user does choose not to get Google Apps?

Hi,

If you do not install gapps some of the API's will not be present..Think of google maps API for example. I think we are still in a good situation where the gapps are not installed by default but I have to admit this is more luck than anything else. If the phone gets it's blessing from google the apps will be installed by default as this is, I believe, required.

That's a slap in the face for anybody believing in free software, especially regarding the result of this poll I just found: https://forum.fairphone.com/t/poll-should-the-google-apps-come-preinstalled-with-the-fairphone/469

Hi @BengaloBongali I am a supporter of Open source and I am using a google free Fairphone. I Personally think it is better to not have gapps installed at all. All I was saying is that I believe that if you get the google blessing you are forced to have the gapps installed. I is hard to get clear information about this.

Sorry that I didn't get that.

Then which are the advantages of Google's blessing that outweigh having the choice?
