She started with 80 ants (n=0 weeks since she got it) g(0)=80_3^0
Starting in the following week (i.e. n=1 week since she got it) the population tripled. g(1)=80_3^1=240
The problem starts when she buys the ants. Starting time is generally zero. It would seem odd to start at 1. If you specify that after 1 week there was no change in the population, but the population tripled beginning in the second week, then the answer would be 80_3^n-1, but this doesn't seem as realistic.
