I have been having touchscreen issues (in general and not just in melonDS core or melonDS DS core) when I'm using either the Backbone PlayStation Edition or GameSir G8 Galileo controller in RetroArch v1.16 or v1.17 on Android (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) but Razer Raiju controller + touchscreen controls worked fine in those versions. But I had no touchscreen issues when using those two telescopic controllers in RetroArch v1.15.

If you are using a gaming controller, try without using a controller. If it's fine without a controller, it's a RetroArch issue. If you weren't using a controller and/or have no issues on other Nintendo DS cores with touchscreen support, then it is a core issue. Testing melonDS DS right now in the lastest build of RetroArch v1.17, I am having no touchscreen issues when I'm not using a controller or my Razer Raiju controller, but of course, the touchscreen (in general and not just the core) stops working after one touch when I use my Backbone or G8 Galileo (RetroArch issue).
