Problem Description

Nvenc error:

Same problem using ffmpeg command line version 6.1.1-full_build-www.gyan.dev with option -c:v h264_nvenc.

Updating Nvidia driver to latest version 528.02 did not help.

Vidcoder 8.26, which is based on Handbrake 1.6.1 works OK.

The issue likely appeared after updating Handbrake and ffmpeg.

On NVIDIA website the latest listed for the 1080 Ti is 546.33.

Nvidia installer reports 546.33 installed without errors, still driver version reported by Nvidia Control Panel is 528.02 (even after reboot).

The version of the following driver file is 31.0.15.2802 (which is the same as 528.02).
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvaksi.inf_amd64_ce8737b92fca3d32\nvlddmkm.sys

There is something wrong with INF files management.
I'm currently investigating.

I fixed some Windows problems by doing an in-place upgrade, then upgraded Nvidia driver to 546.33.

Problem not solved here mate; what is driving this requirement?
I have many programs tied to cuda 12.0 and handbrake is not going to be the one breaking my system for this requirement.

it's not handbrake. it's ffmpeg ?issue?

A guy at discord that using gentoo on his old gt 710 with drivers 470xxx (because it's last version that support the card ) and cuda 11.1 got this by just using ffmpeg.

Software moves forward I'm afraid. As we move forward with Nvidia's libraries for NVEnc, the requirements will progress with time as well.

Running modern drives shouldn't be causing breakage with older apps compiled against older CUDA versions.

Folks can continue to run older unsupported versions of HandBrake if they want to continue using older unsupported hardware.

GT710 is an 11 year old architecture at this point so it's really not unexpected that support for has been dropped.
