Posting this for visibility as I understand, thanks to Kirill, that there is a large storage cost associated by installing the needed latex packages.
It could be a useful feature for people who still are printing docs.
If it is not considered as useful in the long run, is there a way to delete those options for the export menu?
It will avoid the following error:

500 : Internal Server Error

The error was:

nbconvert failed: Pandoc wasn't found.
Please check that pandoc is installed:

Export menus rely on nbconvert to actually do work. Saving to html should work out of the box, but other formats require pandoc, which we should probably install, it's probably not that huge. But to output to PDF goes via these packages texlive-xetex texlive-fonts-recommended texlive-generic-recommended and probably more to get things like equations right.

Actions

  • Understand impact (in docker image size)
  • Decide if worth it
  • Investigate jupyter lab configuration to see if those menus that do not work can be disabled somehow
