Question re vobsub2srt integration

This is a total beginner's question: I can't get h265ize to work with vobsub2srt on my system (linux mint 19.3). The only way I managed to install vobsub2srt is via snap. vobsub2srt runs fine from the command line by itself. When h265ize requests it, it returns an error code 1. Anybody have any idea what the likely cause for this is?
