Hi, I hope there is an alternative that works on latest version of non rooted Android. Any ideas? Thank you!

It does work. My Android is 7.0... I can't remember if it's rooted, maybe it is....

use this : https://github.com/natario1/whatsapp-database-merger in combination with FMWhatapp or GBWhatapp to get not encrypted backup. don't know if these are really safe in term of confidentiality FYI

How to migrate data then FMWhatapp or GBWhatapp do not support Google drive backups. :(
And I still need to get key and database to export the chats. :(
