In the "Special Fields Excercise" (page 39 of the python tutorial) it says: "Select the Alt Text tab in the Size dialog box and enter “{CustomerPic UsePlaceHolderSize}” in the Alternative text box (see picture below)."
With recent versions of Word, there are two options in the Alt Text panel: "Title" and "Description". The tutorial should IMHO explain, that the picture field name and optional formatting must be entered in the Alt-Title field.
