I hit what I would call a bad bug. I call it bad because an after the fact side effect is that Distance recovers from it just fine, and when you close the software no warning is shown but the project cannot be opened again (the error message you get then is attached), so you loose all the work in the project. (without having managed yet, but not tried hard either, I believe there might be ways to make the project open again, but that will probably require that one edits the .mdb to solve an inconsistency created by the bug, or some such - either way, something that can be really upsetting for a practitioner).

Any way, here's what happened. I tried to generate a new "survey" design from a "design", and I chose a name that Distance did not like Design2.1 - I assume it did not like the "." It complained so I used a different name and continue working for a couple of hours without any further problems. At the end I had a nice design I was happy with. Closed the software, and now I can't open my project :( because of the screenshot here. Some of the words in it made me realize where the problem had started. From what I can tell, inside the database here must still be a record with some invalid name and Distance can't cope with it. This is really annoying because I actually lost the design I was happy with :( so this would be a pain if it had happened to some user.

This is detailed in #132 which explains how to get round it and shows it is on the todo list for Distance 7 Release 1
