Changing Town Name breaks Island

Hi,
I'm playing the gamecube version on Dolphin Emulator. I have tried editing my town name, however it seems to make issues with my island. Kapp'n asks me to name it again, as if I had not visited it before, and once we're in the boat, the game freezes with an Invalid Read error, and I have to close the emulator. I have tried changing other information except the town name, and everything runs fine and Kapp'n takes me to the original island. If I try making changes to the islander or the island acres, it does not change the island in the game. Is there somewhere else I need to update this information?
