Description

After upgrading to 15.9 Netflix and "DRM Info" apps hanging after their app start. The Netflix app is also used for authorization of their Netflix games and they hang now, too.
Restarting Netflix app, rebooting system and a clean, fresh install does not change anything at 15.9.

I tested it with a second laptop (Dell Latitude 5491) both BlissOS versions (15.8.6, 15.9) each with a clean install:

  • 15.8.6 Netflix and "DRM Info" apps working* as intended (no HD possible, because of L3), and app authorization (for Netflix games) works
  • 15.9 both apps stop working (so no auth for game apps, too)

The Netflix app tests Widevine and root support at startup and hangs if the internal test fails. This behaviour can be seen with rooted open source Android versions. Magisk app is needed then to hide root from and "enable" Widevine for Netflix app.

BTW: Disney+ is not allowed to install with both BlissOS versions

As I'm writing this bug report, I can think of that this could be "root" problem in some way.

The Netflix app shows a generic "device error" with code 500.-172 which sais "pls reboot and try again", see Netflix Help Center: Netflix Error 501.-172.

*) App "DRM Info" seemed to change something with their last update, it is now incompatible with BlissOS regarding Google Playstore.

Reproduction steps

1a. Install BlissOS 15.8.6 to a clean partition with ext4
2a. Go through the setup and login a Google account
3a. Install Netflix and a Netflix game (Bloons, Dungeon Boss respawned, ...)
4a. Start Netflix app and login with Netflix account
5a. Start Netflix game and let it authorize your Netflix account
6a. Start gaming ;)

1b. Install (or upgrade) BlissOS 15.9 to a clean partition with ext4
2b. Go through the setup and login a Google account
3b. Install Netflix and a Netflix game (Bloons, Dungeon Boss respawned, ...); "DRM Info" is not compatible any more and can't be installed via PlayStore
4b. Start Netflix app and wait for the app error message "500.-172"
5b. Netflix game app does hang now, too (waiting for authorization)
