Feel free to elaborate, rant, and/or ramble.

There's a fair amount of overlap in Tip 1 w/ some of the other tips. I wonder if a deeper exploration of some of the classes of models (e.g., supervised / unsupervised) and types of deep ML models may be better as a focus for tip 1.

Any citations for the rule? (peer-reviewed literature preferred but not required)
