Spanish translation of ThinkPython2

Hi Allen

I've not found a better way to ask you this question than doing it here (since this is the source of the original English version, I think doing it here is not so bad).

Is there an up-to-date translation of ThinkPython2 to Spanish?

The only thing I've found is a translation made by Miguel Ángel Vilella, Ángel Arnal (among others), but it is dated back into 2002.

This semester, I'm using your book as a complement to my lectures at my University, but since I'm from Chile, not all the people are comfortable enough reading in English.

If there's anything I could do to help in this issue, just tell me.

Congratulations for your huge work in this book. This is something that has done an enormous impact, due to both its contents and its license.

I don't know if I can do it all by myself. Hopefully more people would join us in this endeavor. I will also see how much could be reused from the old translation.

I have another doubt, slightly related to this "issue": why this version of the book is different than the one in openbookproject?

There are some chapters in different order, and the latter has more chapters.

A little late to the party here. I actually came here to fork and was taking a look at the issues. The reason why the version you posted is different is because they took the book and modified it/added to it. This book is published with an MIT license meaning anyone and do just about anything they want with it including making a fork of it and editing it to their hearts content. That is based on a fork created by the author listed on the page and it's code is located here: https://code.launchpad.net/~thinkcspy-rle-team/thinkcspy/thinkcspy3-rle.

Back on topic: as for the Spanish version, I think it'd be great to get this book translated into all of the major languages, but I only speak English so I won't be of much help in this respect.

I'm working on a translation for the lastest version of Think Python (including recent commits) but I'm doing it alone. Anyone who wants to join, tell me. Working alone it's a very slow process, so I wish someone wants to do it. Maybe we could translate Think Stats and Think Bayes.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only nut working alone on this book.

It happens that in January I was in a python workshop where the Spanish version was used (very old by the way) and when I searched the web for information about a more recent edition I found the author's site and this repository.

However since Python 2 will die in a couple of months and python 3 is consolidating, I think the main thing is to translate all the examples and code fragments of the book from python 2 to python 3, as there are slight changes in the syntax. This would be prior to translating the book into Spanish or any other language.

This is like a reedition or previous work for a new edition (something I don't know if the author has in mind). And since I haven't asked him about it because my idea was to update the code of the book and propose a more modern LaTeX markup, the year has gone by without doing so.

I was tempted to take advantage of haacktoberfest to call the masses and to be able to organize this idea, but also because of my occupations, the month has gone by and I haven't succeeded.

It sounds like you think this version of the book is in Python 2, but this is the repo for the second edition of Think Python, which is already updated for Python 3.

I'm not quite sure, in the workshop we saw that there were many snippets in python 2 yet.

But I would have to carefully review the content of the repository. I downloaded it in January but I see that there are some corrections.

I did. I've started to translate from scratch and updated to lastest fixes by Allen Downey on English version. My translation is not complete, but someday it will be.
