Quick description

Nethereed has so far been immensely frustrating:

  • Mysteriously disappears when I first get it to mutate.
  • Reports it can't grow in the Nether, and grows so slowly (despite being at 10/10/10/10/10/10) that I wasn't certain whether or not it could actually grow at first.
  • Doesn't appear to be able to spread (but it could just be that it's outrageously bad and takes forever to spread.)
  • Produces so few slivers of Netherite that I thought it was bugged until I finally got one and noticed that it's a 25% chance for 1/9th of a Netherite Scrap, but that's at least intentional game design.

Mods and versions used

  • Minecraft: 1.18.2
  • AgriCraft: 3.1.4
  • InfinityLib: 2.1.4
  • Forge: 40.1.68
Modpack: TNP Limitless 5 release 2.16.0
    Potential related mods:
  • Amplified Nether: 1.1.1
  • BYG: 1.4.2
  • Pickle Tweaks: 6.1.1

Steps to replicate the issue

  1. Loaded up Limitless 5 server, initially on release 2.15.1 (AgriCraft 3.1.3) and then moved to release 2.16.0 (AgriCraft 3.1.4); most seed mutation was done with 2.16.0/AgriCraft 3.1.4.
  2. Mutated a Nethereed seed
  3. There was no indication about needing lava-logged crop sticks, and the crops would vanish before I could read all the reasons why it was unhappy and unable to grow. I had enough time to pick up a few seeds, but not to figure out what was wrong.
  4. I looked in the config file to realize that it needed lava (and could only be planted in the Nether)
  5. I eventually figured out that meant lava-logged crop sticks rather than emulating farmland with a central lava source block, but nothing in-game told me that this mechanic even existed, much less that it was required.
  6. After figuring out all the requirements, I planted it in the Nether in biome Subzero Hypogeal from BYG
  7. Inspecting it shows "This plant can not grow in this dimension" but it does actually grow when watered with a Pickle Tweaks watering can, and does grow (incredibly slowly, despite being 10/10/10/10/10/10)
  8. The Nethereed appears to refuse to spread despite having lava-logged crossed obsidian crop sticks for it to spread to, with ancient debris under them.
  9. Attempted to replicate in a new save with just Agricraft installed to try with no other influences (then adding mods that I thought might be at fault if it wasn't bugged with just Agricraft), but I was unable to /give or Creative Inventory myself Nethereed seeds and I'm not spending another day re-breeding Nethereed just to test out interactions with other mods when this pack has Mystical Agriculture.

Expectations and explanations

  1. I would expect the Nethereed to not mysteriously vanish (die?) before I'm able to read the reasons why it can't grow; ideally the crops would never just vanish instantly, so that you have the opportunity to look at them, figure out the requirements, then plant them in an appropriate environment.
  2. I would expect the Nethereed to report that it can grow in The Nether, and be able to spread.
