Windows 10 build errors regarding stdio.h #462

Hello, I encountered many errors regarding stdio.h after I started building via cmake --build _build --config Release -v --parallel=28 --target main_executable > buildlog.log.

Thanks for reporting the issue!

I tested a fresh build on Windows 10, and I have no issues. I am currently using Windows SDK version 10.0.22000.0 target Windows 10.0.19045.

Which MSYS2 shell are you using?

To unblock you, you try to replace the content of cmake/dependencies/pcre2.cmake with the previous version here : https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenRV/blob/c607d69e2a222e689a518b1d02228054fac96644/cmake/dependencies/pcre2.cmake

The build process was launched with rvbootstrap alias, here the CMAKE parameters we got from source rvcmds.sh

CMake parameters:
RV_BUILD_PARALLELISM is 8
RV_HOME is /c/OpenRV
RV_BUILD is /c/OpenRV/_build
RV_INST is /c/OpenRV/_install
CMAKE_GENERATOR is Visual Studio 17 2022
QT_HOME is c:/Qt/5.15.2/msvc2019_64
WIN_PERL is c:/Strawberry/perl/bin

Visual Studio 2022 Comunity edition
Target build is Windows 10.0.19045
Target SDK is Windows SDK version 10.0.22621.0

The entire build process is ending with ~1200 Errors and ~50 Warnings

Please help us with an up-to-date build process on Windows 🙏

Thanks for reporting the issue!

I tested a fresh build on Windows 10, and I have no issues. I am currently using Windows SDK version 10.0.22000.0 target Windows 10.0.19045.

Which MSYS2 shell are you using?

To unblock you, you try to replace the content of cmake/dependencies/pcre2.cmake with the previous version here : https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenRV/blob/c607d69e2a222e689a518b1d02228054fac96644/cmake/dependencies/pcre2.cmake

We are using MSYS 14.1.0

# gcc --version
gcc.exe (Rev3, Built by MSYS2 project) 14.1.0

~~> And it seems that your fix is working !

The build process finised with 0 Errors and 3232 Warnings, and no more error regaring std***.h, I finaly get the rv.exe compiled and was able to launch it

Already tested by playing one .mov and an .exr sequence files, it is working fine :)

PS: is it something that need to be fixed on the main branch? or is it just compatibility issue with standard libraries of mingw64 ?

By shell, I meant which shell are you executing the command from? There are multiples available when you install msys2 such as MSYS2 MINGW64, MSYS2 UCRT64, MSYS2 MINGW32.

You should be using MSYS2 MINGW64. Is that the case?

I tested with the same Windows SDK as you, and it compile PCRE2 without any issue. I can't reproduce it, but I'll try to think what could cause that.

In any case, I will probably just rollback the changes to pcre2.cmake.

@SKY123C Did you try to workaround that I mentioned in a comment above? Replace the content of pcre2.cmake with the previous version?

I'll create a PR today to revert the latest changes to PCRE2.cmake.
