APSIM710-r4219 Soil with new water and nitrogen models.xml works in wheat crop simulation but not in maize #2213
Comments
I haven't seen this before. We haven't used APSIM 7.10 for many years and we don't fix problems in it anymore. Why not use APSIM Next Gen? |
Sometimes ApsimModel.exe will write to the standard error stream, which is ignored by Apsim.exe. If there's a .sim file left behind, you can run that with ApsimModel to find more errors. Usually it's a cryptic stack trace that may point you to the module that is failing. |
I asked him the same question :) This is not a new task, they want to use the previous APSIM files, which were set up in Classic |
Thanks, Peter. We will try it. |
We used the ApsimModel.exe to run the .sim file, and no more errors showed. It looks like this module only works for wheat (we tried sorghum, the same as maize), do you know who developed this new nitrogen module in APSIM classic? Can we solve this issue by ourselves? In APSIM NG, are we using the new nitrogen module? Many thanks! @peter-devoil @hol353 |
I'm not sure what you mean by 'the new nitrogen model'. There is only one released model in APSIM 7.10 - soiln. There was a prototype , newer, 'soilnitrogen' model that was never released. |
It may be not accurate to call it ‘new model’. In ‘.\APSIM710-r4219\Model\...’, there is a .xml file named ‘Soil with new nitrogen.xml’, which is linked with SoilNitrogen.dll, different from ‘soil.xml’ linked with soilN.dll. We used the ‘Soil with new nitrogen.xml’ to replace the ‘soi.xml’. But it only works for wheat, not for maize.
‘Soil with new nitrogen.xml’ & SoilNitrogen.dll includes more N processes, like urea hydrolysis etc.

My colleague in CAS would like to use the new nitrogen models in maize crop simulation as he is interested in urea hydrolysis, nitrification and denitrification processes. However, we found this model works in wheat crop simulation but not maize. When we used this module in maize simulation, it showed "Errors found", but no specific information, and the simulation stopped on the first day when maize sowing, a screenshot is attached.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
