Best mouse driver switch settings for smoothness? #4388

I was just playing around with various mouse drivers and settings for both bus and ps/2. Worth mentioning: Logitech 7.30 driver (didn't try any other versions) works well with /aoff /s08. Acceleration off, speed 8 out of 10. Driver loads itself into upper memory which is great. I liked this one. MS Intellipoint 1.1 (for DOS/Win 3.1), liked it and am using it at the current time. Doesn't take up memory, ipoint app is what is used to choose settings. 2.2 is for Windows 95 and up. In 95 and up you can use an app to set the port rate. Cutemouse has 2 versions, 1.9 and 2.1 use BIOS, and 2.0 uses direct hardware access. With default settings, 2.0 felt better than 1.9/2.1. Probably best with /R2 for resolution (up to 9). Driver does not have bus support, support is PS/2 or serial only (don't use serial, awful). PS/2 is 40 hz default in Windows 9x which is why programs like PS2Rate were invented to clock up and then Windows itself built that functionality into the device properties. Bus mouse if not in "untimed" can be set to 60 Hz. The two do not feel the same though. Bus at 60 does not refresh the cursor fast enough. Bus on untimed is smoother BUT has an ice skating lag effect. I think PS/2 despite its own issues has more of a "natural" feel. |

For device, use Logitech/Microsoft Bus Mouse and make 2 changes, change IRQ to 2 (5 won't work on 486) and Hz to non-timed (polls more often).
For the driver switches in microsoft's 8.20 mouse driver a base setting of /B /R0 /P1 seems to work decent. Using /Y for hardware cursor doesn't seem to work as well. Changing the R and P values changes the feel of the movement of the cursor.. I haven't tried the other switches.
Changing settings doesn't need to reboot, I've been doing mouse off, then typing in new values.
A feel I am looking for here is mouseaim, like when I used to do 200 Hz on the PS/2 port for games like Quake which worked quite well with a monitor refresh of 100 Hz.
If someone finds a good combination that works just right, please share them here.
