Adding a new plot relies on converting between Bokeh plot element ids and indices for a selection. There is currently no way of inspecting this process during development (adding a new plot type, say).

We could output the Bokeh indices with console.log, or store the most recent selection (in the python kernel). Either possibility could be enabled with a verbose flag.
