I’d sent this question/scenario request to microCOVIC HQ, which sent me here.
Greetings!
I’m a singer by trade, and a regular segment of my work has always been choral singing. Throughout the pandemic, my 4 colleagues and I have gone through several setups to get music into the church service: initially (failed) livestream; recording music together in the otherwise empty (and large) sanctuary, increasingly distanced and individually mic-ed; then (for 7 months) in our homes, using an online recording platform to put down our individual parts; return to the sanctuary fully vaxxed, just 5 singers, organist and ministers, live-streamed (partially successfully).
Now we’re back with the whole choir. All have signed statements saying they’re fully vaxxed. The HVAC has been upgraded. It’s ca. 50 singers, masked, sitting 2’-3’ apart (which feels like “theater” to me); organist/conductor, and 3 ministers.
I think all are aware of the special dangers posed by singers and other plume-producers, particularly as the first acknowledged super-spreader event was that choir rehearsal in WA.
There are loads of choirs out there who are negotiating a return to rehearsal and performance— secular ones as well as church groups. I have a feeling there’d need to be specific new items added to those in place in your tool at the moment— maybe the singing part itself, as a super-projecting activity, would be all that would be needed.
But I know a LOT of singers and administrators would appreciate it, as much to scare some out of it as to supply a bit more confidence.
